Anna could have guessed that the man would have been shocked; after all, she did kind of sneak up on the guy. But she didn’t predict that he would freeze up for so long. Jeez, talk about awkward! She was only trying to start up a talk, after all—

His mind whirled and flung, flipped and twisted; sought out every passing thought. This lasted for a while, an inappropriate amount of time, in fact. So much so, Jack almost had to slap himself to return to reality. Luckily, that wasn’t necessary. A quick jar from the reverie did the trick.
